In this lesson, students will learn that regular exercise keeps our heart and lungs healthy, and our bones and muscles strong. They will learn about the different types of exercise and will categorise different examples. They will learn all the key benefits of exercise linking also to the circulatory system before investigating the effect of exercise on their heart rate.
They will take this further and investigate a hypothesis and will have to organise their experiment as well as record and present their results.

In this lesson, students will look at what the properties of materials are e.g. hard, waterproof, reflective, electronically conductive. They will watch an engaging video displaying this and will carry out their own tests on various materials following the experiment sheet.
A list of equipment required is detailed as well as example experiments that can be used to test the various materials for their properties. They will record their observations and then look at what materials would be best to suit certain properties suggested.

In this lesson students will learn what inheritance is and how the differences between us is due to inherited traits and variation. They will consider acquired and inherited traits and will organise example traits accordingly.
They will try to identify inherited traits in images and will draw different versions of a puppy taking different features from their parents.

In this lesson students will learn how plants and animals have evolved over time according to natural selection of evolution.
They will look at some examples of adaptive traits of plants and animals and will come up with their own. They will also create their own plant and animal they believe would be well suited to the habitats shown. They will consider Darwin’s contribution to this knowledge and how humans have evolved over time.

In this lesson students will learn about Darwin’s theory of evolution and how it can be explained through natural selection. They will watch an engaging video clip, look at the example of the peppered moth and Darwin’s finches on his voyage aboard the HMS Beagle.
They will then investigate Darwin’s theory derived from finches by experimenting with different beak types collecting different food. They will consider how this showed that successful animals adapt to their environment.
By the end of the lesson they will have been able to demonstrate the theory of natural selection!

In this lesson, students will work towards the objective: To understand how space travel has progressed and how rockets work.

In this lesson, students will look at examples of reversible physical changes and irreversible chemical changes involving reactants and products. They will categorise different changes accordingly and will learn what indicators to look for to determine whether something is an irreversible change.

In this lesson, students will learn about thermal conductors and insulators. They will learn what materials are thermally conductive and how they are used to help us e.g. radiators. In this lesson, students will learn all about what happens in the womb during gestation. They will learn about fertilisation and how the foetus develops in the womb. They will look at each month of pregnancy specifically, understanding key developments and comparing to the size of a fruit or vegetable for easy understanding!
